Even if, pace Karl Whelan, some of them are interested in some of the “problems” or “inequities” of capitalism, none of them are investigating the possibility that capitalism itself might be the problem, that it is predicated on an obvious impossibility (limitless growth in a finite world) that is also an immorality.

The so-called maximising rational individual in supreme isolated abstract space is one of the most dangerous constructions to be encounted in social or human science. It does not exist anywhere in human space – it’s a flawed, if useful, abstraction – but, in certain ideological hands, as dangerous as the bubonic plague.
